Our Mission

To recognize and honor high school enlistees and their commitment to military service and to provide parents/guardians of enlistees with community support as their son or daughter transition into military service.

Chairman of the Board
Colonel Richard Kaniss
US Army, Retired

Richard is the Chairman for the Our Community Salutes DFW Inc.

Prior to that he was the chapter president for the Association of United States Army (AUSA)– North Texas –Audie Murphy chapter. In 2016, the AUSA National organization awarded “Best Chapter” to the North Texas –Audie Murphy chapter.

Colonel Kaniss retired with over 30 years of military service in July 2006. Colonel Kaniss is a Managing Partner with MGR & Associated, LLC. The company distributes software and solutions that provide an emergency 2-way communications solution, anti-vaping, air quality monitoring devices and anti-breaching door locks to schools, commercial buildings and their campuses, hotels and casinos in Texas and a 4-state area.

Treasurer
David Ewing
CPA

David is the Treasurer for the Our Community Salutes DFW Inc. Prior to that he was the Treasurer for the Association of United States Army (AUSA)– North Texas – Audie Murphy chapter.

David has been a CPA licensed in Texas since 1990 David has been in corporate accounting since the1980’s at various companies and industries. He enjoys golfing, traveling; especially to the summer Olympics and family time around their home in Dallas.

David and his wife, Patti are originally from San Antonio. He is a graduate from UTSA.

Larry Allen

Larry Allen is the Director of the North Texas Wreaths of Honor nonprofit.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1969-1970. Larry was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended and graduated from the University of Texas / Dallas in June 1978.

He began his work career with Texas Instruments in 1973. After leaving T.I. in 1981 for the next 25 years he worked at Sanyo and developed batteries with Compaq Computer (now HP), Dell Computer, Nokia(cellphones) and Philips Emergency Lighting.

David Correa
Fort Worth and Greater Tarrant Co. Market President, SVP for Truist Bank

David joined the bank in 2017. Prior to accepting his new role, David was a commercial banker within the Dealer Services space as well as a Commercial Banker in North Texas where he was responsible for building relationships with a variety of companies. During his tenure on the Dallas Commercial Team, David helped to build a $91MM C&I Portfolio.

David lives in Ft Worth with his wife, Keely and two young children Dean and Grant. In his free time David enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family. He is a proud graduate of Baylor University. In addition to serving on the OCS Board, David is involved in boards that support higher education and animal services.

Colonel J.P. Hogan
US Army, Retired

Colonel (Retired) JP Hogan was commissioned as a 2LT of Armor in 1970 from the ROTC Program at Eastern Michigan University. During the subsequent 29+ years of active federal service he led armor and cavalry units through Brigade level. He is an Army Aviator rated in several US Army rotary wing aircraft. Duty during his career included command and staff positions in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, Central and South America, the Middle East and Africa.

Following his military service, JP spent more than ten years working with senior leadership in automotive companies in the manufacturing and after-market verticals and with the Department of Defense as a consultant and strategic planner.

Now an entrepreneur, JP is a partner with iMatter, LLC, a Michigan and Texas based vision and executive coaching company and he is co-founder of the Passing the Torch Leader Development Program serving ROTC cadets and Army cadre members at several universities in Northern Texas. The How2lead, LLC is the commercialization of the Passing the Torch program and serves civilian leader development requirements.

JP is the former President of the North Texas-Audie Murphy Chapter of AUSA, the Texas State President (Education and Professional Development) for AUSA and now serves as the Executive VP of the 4th Region of AUSA.

He also serves as the Northern Regional Director for the Texas Committee of the Employer Support to Guard and Reserve (TXESGR) Program and is an active leader in several veteran focused initiatives across North Texas. JP served for several years as a Director with the Frisco, TX Community Development Corporation (CDC), where he worked with city officials (elected and governmental employees) to identify and fund projects directly effecting quality of life in the community. He is an active Rotarian, a member of the Army Aviation Association of America and an active member of the Association of Talent Development.

JP completed undergraduate work at Eastern Michigan University, earned a Masters of Public Administration at Shippensburg University and completed post-graduate work in Strategic Studies at the United States Army War College at Carlisle PA. He is a recipient of the US Army Draper Leadership Award and a certified Instructional Systems Designer.

Colonel Jeff Gault
US Army, Retired

COL (R) Jeff Gault is the Chief Executive Officer of the Army Scholarship Foundation, which provides academic scholarships to Army family members. Over the years, the Foundation has helped hundreds of military family members pursue their educational dreams.

Jeff enjoyed a distinguished career in the US Army, serving five tours in Europe and two deployments to the Middle East, including Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He retired from the Army as the Chief of Staff for FortBliss, Texas at the rank of Colonel.

Following his Army Service, Jeff was a Director for Advanced Systems with the Boeing Company inWashington, DC, where he worked on the Ground Based Missile Defense System and the Department of Homeland Security’s Secure Border Initiative.

Subsequently, Jeff moved to Texas as the Director for Strategic Planning for Network Centric Systems with Raytheon in Plano. Upon leaving Raytheon, Jeff ran small business supply chain operations for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC.

In 2006 he was appointed by President Bush to a six-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Veterans Corporation; he was subsequently elected chairman of the board in 2008.

Jim Blythe

Famed Talk Show personality of the Alliance4theBrave, Veteran Based radio program now on the Veterans Impact Show. The show is carried on networks across America since 2015. Jim started radio at the age of 16 and did the Armed Forces Radio onboard the USS Oriskany and Hancock during his tours in Vietnam. Returned to radio in 1994 on KRLD doing Real Estate and mortgage shows.

Native Texan, who served in the US Navy from 1967 to end of 1970 and three combat tours of Vietnam, Undergraduate degree at The University of Texas, in Finance. Currently a Real Estate Broker since 1973.
